What exactly is the tumor gene test report saying?
In fact, the tumor gene testing report tells us which cancer cells have mutated, and provides available drugs related to the mutation points, including chemotherapy drugs, targeted drugs, and immunotherapy.
Tumor gene testing reports can be divided into three parts in structure.
1.Basic patient information and medication tips
At present, the mainstream use of examinations recommended by NCCN guidelines makes it easier for clinicians to see the detection methods and results.
2. The patient’s cancer cell gene test results
The patient’s blood mutation test results, all results detected by ctDNA are included here, and if there is a gene copy number variation, it is also included in the copy number variation test results. If drug-resistant gene loci are found, they will be reported in some tests.
3. Target drug screening: applicable drugs and limitations.
All important results can be seen from the medication tips, which will include targeted medication tips and chemotherapy medication tips. The targeted drug analysis results will indicate sensitive targeted drugs, resistant and ineffective targeted drugs, and immune medication tips.
Limitations: The database also prompts references, lists of targeted drugs and clinical trials with inconsistent research conclusions. Some literature supports that a certain gene mutation is sensitive to targeted drugs, while other literature does not support it. The results of this part are for clinical drug reference.
Each row represents the test result of a gene.
The first part is the name of the gene and chromosome, then the type of DNA and gene base variation, and then the clinical significance. For patients, clinical significance is the most direct reference tip for medication. Therefore, understanding this part is most helpful to patients.
For example, it is written in the picture that it may be sensitive to EGFR-targeting agents. Drugs corresponding to EGFR targets include osimertinib, brigitinib, etc. Both clinicians and patients can choose how to use medications based on this report and the patient’s condition.
